JOHN NARL GOOLSBY, one of the county's most prominent citizens, died in Carnesville Saturday last at age 68. Mr. Goolsby had been in his usual good health until a few days before his demise. He was a visitor to Carnesville Saturday, at which time he consulted a physician. It was on the return home, that a son noticed some change in his father and, inquiring if he were feeling worse, decided to return to Carnesville for further medical attention. He died shortly after reaching town. Funeral services and interment took place at Ruhamah Monday, in the presence of one of the largest gatherings ever to attend a funeral at this church. Rev. A. C. Craft of Toccoa, conducting the services, assisted by rev. J. W. Nash and J. L. Jordan of Franklin Springs and J. W. Lee of Carnesville. Mr. Goolsby was identified with the business interests of the county a number of times and for several years had been chairman of the democratic executive committee. He was a prominent Mason for thirty years and, several terms, had served as worshipful master of the Carnesville Lodge. He was an upright citizen and one who practiced the teachings of Christ in his every-day life; a kind neighbor, a devoted husband and father. No citizen of the county could lay claim to a larger number of genuine friends and the entire county and state loses in the passing of such an outstanding citizen. Mr. Goolsby is survived by his wife who, before marriage, was Miss Neallie Power, and the following children: T. W., B. W., Tabor, Berryman and Mankin Goolsby of Carnesville; J. R. Goolsby of Atlanta; Mrs. Octie Williams of Eastanollee, Mrs. Opal Williams of Toccoa, Mrs. Oswald Morgan of Carnesville, Mrs. Fred Thomas and Mrs. Mamie Duvall of Atlanta. He is also survived by 32 grandchildren and the following sisters - Mrs. Drucy Thomason of Tifton, Mr. Lee Jones of Atlanta and Mrs. Ella Freeman of LaGramge. B. D. Ginn, funeral director. Additional Comments: His spouse's name was Laura Cornelia Power. Her parents' were William L. Power and Desdamonia Berryman File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/franklin/obits/g/goolsby13256ob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.7 Kb
