WILLIAM TERRELL MARTIN, one of Franklin County's most prominent citizens, died shortly after noon on Tuesday, August 6th. He death came in his 74th year. "Mr. Will", as he was known to hundreds of friends throughout North Georgia, was born in Banks County, March 20, 1872 and was the son of the late Derrell A. Martin and Mrs. Julia Ann Kesler Martin. He had lived in this community all of his life of usefulness, always willing to help his fellow man in time of need. He was active in both civic and religious affairs until his health failed several months ago. He was a member of the Board of Stewards of Prospect Methodist Church, a member of Carnesville Masonic Lodge, and was ex- Chairman of the Franklin County Democratic Committe. Mr. Martin was also a member of the Franklin County Board of Tax Assessors for a number of years. One of the most beautiful floral offerings ever seen in this community evidenced the high esteem in which he was held. Besides his wife, he is survived by 10 children, Terrell Martin of Toccoa, Mrs. Homer Cash of Carnesville, Mrs. Tom Martin of Homer, Doyle Martin of Bessemer, Alabama, Warren Martin of Spartanburg, SC, Mrs. W. L. Knox of Martin, Derrill Martin of Toccoa, Ralph Martin of Portsmouth Ohio, Raymond Martin of Toccoa, and Mrs. Frank Turk of Cornelia. He is also survived by thee brothers, Oll Martin, E. S. Martin and Zack Martin, all of Toccoa; four sisters, Mrs. J. E. Whitfield of Toccoa, Mrs. Knox Wilkinson of Toccoa, and 34 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Prospect Methodist Church with Rev. Wheelis and Rev. Bailey officiating. The Carnesville Masonic Lodge # 186 had charge of the grave services. Interment was in Prospect cemetery with Acree-Davis Funeral Directors in charge.
