Mitchell, 77, died at his home here this morning following a 15 day illness. Mr. Mitchell, a well-known Franklin County citizen, was a retired farmer and had lived in the county all of his life. He was a member of the Lavonia Baptist Church. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Lavonia Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rufus S. Monk, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Lavonia cemetery. He is survived by four daughter, Mrs. Thomas G. Walters of Washington, DC, Mrs. Charles B. Newton of Buchanan, GA, Mrs. Hugh Beasley of Greenwood, SC and Mrs. W. F. Bullard of Lavonia; one son, J. H. Mitchell of Athens; two sisters, Mrs. Billie Purcell of Toccoa and Mrs. R. F. Garner of Atlanta. Pallbearers were J. B. Harbin, W. E. Wilson, W. M. Weldon and W. H. Sewell. Weldon Funeral Home, Lavonia.
