Mrs. Oakley was born in Hart County, but had made Franklin her home for the greater part of her life. She was formerly Miss Mattie Haggins, and was married to Mr. Oakley December 9th, 1097. She was a faithful christian, being a member of the Hart County Cross Roads church since girlhood. She was known by a large circle of friends, and loved by all who came in contact with her sweet and gentle nature. Funeral services were held at Double Branches church Sunday morning with Rev. Spence Phillips officiating. A large crowd attended the funeral. Pallbearers were: Robert Oakley, Charles Oakley, Henry Oakley, David Oakley, A. T. Carter, Geo. Gibby. Flower girls were: Maryette Oakley, Geraldine Gibby, Sudie Faye Gibby, Annie Lou Oakley, Joyce Harris and Mary Sue Roach. In addition to her husband, she is survived by the following children, Ben Oakley, Royston, Mrs. Joe Hall, Royston, Robert Oakley, Walhalla, S. C. Charles Oakley, Leesbury, Fla. and Henry Oakley, Walhalla, S. C. One sister, Mrs Minnie Jackson, Canon, two brothers, Mark Haggins, Eastanollee, and Jack Haggins, Westminster, S. C. also survive. B. D. ginn, funeral director, was in charge of arrangements.
