Born in Franklin County on February 28, 1924, he was the son of the late B.E. and Tersia Phillips Parten. He was a retired machine operator, having worked with Westinghouse Corporation, and was a cattle farmer. He was a member of the Pennington Chapel United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Franklin County Cattleman’s Association. Mr. Parten formerly served on the Franklin County Board of Commissioners. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilburn “Bill” Parten and George Parten; six sisters, Carmal Parten, Montene Parten, Madge Parten, Retha Phillips, Ellis Sorrells and Nine Brooks. Mr. Parten was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Ruth K. Parten, Royston; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Jill Parten, Royston; daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Tim South, Royston, and Mary and Harris Little, Carnesville; eight grandchildren, James, Lee, Beth and Will South, Ben and Drew Parten, and Sara and Clint Little; sisters, Lucy Haley and Winnie Patterson, both of Royston. Funeral services were held Monday, August 28, at the Pennington Chapel United Methodist Church with the Revs. Steve Alred and Brian David officiating. Burial was in the Cary Memorial Gardens. Grandsons served as honorary pallbearers.
