Phillips, aged 80, died on January 3rd at the home in Sandy Cross community. He had been in ill health for sometime, a complication of diseases causing his death. Mr. Phillips had spent his entire life in Franklin County where he was held in high esteem. He was a member of one of the county's most prominent families and had made countless friends during the years. His long life of usefulness and his many unselfish deeds will bear fruit for many years. He was devoted to his family and a friend to all. Funeral services were held at Zidon church Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock, Rev. W.T. Holcomb conducting the services. Interment followed in the churchyard cemetery, with a large concourse of friends and relatives attending. Surviving Mr. Phillips are his wife, Mrs. Harrett Rebecca Mealor Phillips, four sons, Willie D., Mem C., Charlie Edward, and Fred. F Phillips, three daughters, Mrs. Emma Minyard, Mrs. Lizze Roberts and Mrs. Van Roberts, all of Royston Rfd., four sisters, Mrs. Bunch Crowe, Stanton, Texas, Mrs. Lonnie Crowe, Morton, Texas, Mrs. Sallie Roach, Royston, Miss. Duck Phillips, Crawford, one brother, Willie Phillips, Royston, and 39 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. B.D. Ginn funeral director was in charge of arrangements.
