Phillips, 69, of Rt. 1, died Tuesday afternoon, January 7, at Cobb Memorial Hospital after several days illness. He was born in Franklin County, a son of the late M.C. and Lonie Cape Phillips. He was a retired farmer and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mozelle James Phillips; four daughters, Mrs. Genomie Patrick of Cornelia, Mrs. Annie Sue Minish of Royston, Mrs. Louise Dudley and Mrs. Gayle Brooks of Commerce; five sons, Thomas and Utah Phillips of Royston, Belton Phillips of Hartwell, Danny W. Phillips of Royston, Earthen Phillips of Canon; two sisters, Mrs. Secquart Hart of Royston and Mrs. James Reece of Athens; four brothers, Dorsey, Dewitt, Boyd and Hubert Phillips, all of Royston; 25 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, January 9, at Pennington Chapel United Methodist Church by Rev. Paul Collins and Rev. Sam Teel. Burial was in the church cemetery. Nephews served as pallbearers. Hall Funeral Home of Royston was in charge of arrangements.
