Final rites for M.C. Phillips, 78, a lifelong resident of the Sandy Cross 
community, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Zidon Baptist Church with the Rev. 
Robert Thomas and the Rev. Hoyt Dove officiating. Burial was in the church 
cemetery.

Grandsons served as active pallbearers.

Mr. Phillips, a son of the late Lemuel and Rebecca Mealor Phillips, died at the 
Cobb Memorial Hospital at 9:48 a.m. following a year's illness. He was a member of 
the Zidon Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lonnie Cape Phillips, five sons, Hubert, Dillard, 
DeWitt, Boyd and Dorsey, all of Royston; two daughters, Mrs. James Reaves, of 
Athens, and Mrs. Willie Bruce Hart, of Royston; a brother, C.E. Phillips, of 
Royston.
