Born in Franklin County, he was a son of the late Wiley W. and Sarah Carey Phillips. He was twice married, first to the late Nina Bray Phillips. He was a retired farmer, member of Woodmen of the World and of the Methodist faith. Surviving are wife of the home; stepsons, Hal and Haws Roach of Franklin Springs, and Hugh Roach of Royston; stepdaughter, Mrs. George Alexander of Royston, brother, Cluster Phillips of Kannapolis, N.C.; sister, Mrs. B.E. Parten of Royston; 11 step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. Services were conducted Monday, Nov. 24, at Pennington Chapel United Methodist Church by Revs. B.J. Lamb and Gene Poole. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pruitte Funeral Home, Royston was in charge of arrangements.
