Mr. Phillips was born in Franklin County, a son of the late Wiley (Bob) W. And Sarah Carey Phillips. He was a farmer and of the Methodist faith. Survivors: his widow, Mrs. Bessie James Phillips; five sons, Robert Lee, Clarence Junior, Hugh Edwin Phillips, all of Royston, James D. Phillips of China Grove, N.C., Everett Phillips of Chattanooga, Tenn.; four daughters, Mrs. Louise Moore of Cornelia, Mrs. Evelyn Maxwell and Mrs. Frances Crowe of Royston; Mrs. Shelby Jean Pearson of Decatur; two brothers, Cluster Phillips of Kannapolis N.C., J. L. Phillips of Royston; one sister, Mrs. B.E. Parten of Royston; 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Pennington Chapel Methodist Church with Rev. Howard Staples, Rev. Spence Phillips, and Rev. Hoyt Dove officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Nephews served as pallbearers.
