P. M. Purcell Died Last Thursday

Phillip Morgan Purcell, one of the count's most prominent citizens, died at 
his home in the New Bethel community last Thursday, August 4, after an illness 
of three weeks. He was 81 years, 5 months and 21 days old.  
Mr. Purcell was born Franklin County, the son of the late James Purcell and 
Sarah Kesler Purcell, pioneer citizen of the county. He was a faithful 
Christian, being a member of the Nails Creek Baptist Church for many years. He 
was married to the former Miss Amie Ella Whitfield in 1893. He was a good man, 
honest to a fault, and numbered his friends by his acquaintances.
Funeral services were held at Damascus Church Friday, August 5, with Dr. A. T. 
Cline officiating. A large crowd attended the funeral. Pallbearers were 
nephews: James Martin, Odis Whitfield, Derrell Martin, Willie Purcell, James 
Sutton, Lester Ivester. Interment was in the churchyard cemetery.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by the following sisters and brothers: 
Mrs. Will Martin, Toccoa, Mrs. E. V. Cash, Ashland, Mrs. Allen Isabel, 
Atlanta, Mrs. C. T. Miller, Carnesville, Mrs. John Thomason, Toccoa, Mrs. 
Clifford Hughes, Orlando, Fla., General Purcell, Ashland, Dave Purcell, 
Toccoa, Homer Purcell, Clarkesville, Walton Purcell, Toccoa, Buren Purcell, 
Orlando, Fla.
B. D. Ginn, funeral directors, was in charge of arrangements.
