MRS. EMORY SPEAR PURCELL, 67, DIED AT THE HOME IN Red Hill community Friday, 
February 9th, following an illness of 3 years with cancer.
	Mrs. Purcell was born in Hart County, the former Miss Hattie 
Bannister.  She was married to Mr. Purcell in December 1898.  Mrs. Purcell was 
a faithful Christian being a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church.  She was a 
devoted wife and mother, and a neighbor everyone was proud to have.  She 
endeared herself to all with whom she came in contact and could number her 
friends by her acquaintances.  Although suffering much she bore her suffering 
with true Christian fortitude.
	Funeral services were held at Allens Methodist Church Saturday 
afternoon at 3:00 with Rev. H. A. King and Rev. Mr. Williams officiating.  
Burial followed in the churchyard.  A large crowd attended the funeral.
	Pallbearers were:  Messrs. Joe Jolly, George Crenshaw, Sears Sosby, 
Cleo South, M. L. Cabe, and Will Thompson.
	She is survived by her husband and 6 children, Charlie Purcell, Miss 
Molly Purcell, Mrs. Clarence Echols, Norman Purcell, Miss Inez Purcell, Mrs. 
Terrell Sanders, all of Toccoa.  Three sisters and four brothers also 
survive:  Mrs. Jim Milford of Carnesville, Mrs. Joe Herndon of Asheville, NC, 
Mrs. Walt Ayers of Hartwell, Lewis Bannister of Hartwell, Lawrence Bannister 
of Canon, Lev Bannister of Canon, and Clarence Bannister of Asheville, NC.
	B. D. Ginn, funeral director, was in charge.
