He was born in Royston and was the son of the late Walter Buel and Martha Sue Thomas Rice. He worked for Duke Energy as a computer program analyst at the Training Center, was a member of Bountyland Baptist Church, where he was chairman of the board of deacons and a member of the finance committee. He also helped with Troop #219 of the Boy Scouts of America, and was a United States Air Force veteran, having served in Vietnam. Survivors include his wife, Jean Terry Rice; a son, Rodney Rice; two brothers, Steve Rice, Winterville, and Jesse Rice, Stephens City, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 11, at Bountyland Baptist Church. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Royston. Memorial contributions may be made to The Construction Fund for the New Tower at Oconee Memorial Hospital, 298 Memorial Drive, Seneca, S.C. 29672.
