Born in Franklin County, he was a son of the late C. D. and Leolyear Roberts Segars. He was the widower of Mattie Mae Hill Segars. He was a retired carpenter and farmer and a member of Red Hill Masonic Lodge. He was a member of Broad River Baptist Church and the senior men's Sunday school class. He also was a deacon and taught Sunday school for several years. Surviving are son, Joseph Segars of Martin; daughters, Jeanett Miller and Jean Owens, both of Martin; sisters, Eurelle Murray of Carnesville, Murrelle Autin of Covington, Pauline Whisenhunt of Carnesville, Pearline Losin of Toccoa, Sister Ross of Lincolnton, N.C.,and Bittie Martin of Carnesville; brother, Dan Segars of Lavonia; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Beulah Lohos; and brothers, Henry, Elmer, Freeman, Jack and Wade Segars. Services are at 3 p.m. Monday at Broad River Baptist Church by the Revs. Shanon Hayes and Buddy More; burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family is at the home of Janet Williams, 7893 Athens Road, Carnesville, and will received friends from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to Broad River Baptist Church in memory of Mr. Segars. Whitlock Mortuary of Toccoa is in charge of arrangements.
