Stovall, Veteran of Grey, Buried at Martin Another veteran of the Confederacy has laid aside his battles on earth and has passed on to that Eternal City to rest in peace with his Maker. Death came to Geo. N. Stovall, prominent banker and pioneer citizen of Martin at his home Sunday night, October 28th, after a short illness. He was 91 years old. No person in Franklin County was known to a larger circle of friends and none were more beloved than was this veteran of grey, whose whole life was spent in right living and doing good. Mr. Stovall was one of five brothers who fought in the Confederate army during the 60's. He served the full four years and during that time only had one thirty day furlough home. In the funeral services, Rev. Good said, "He'd fought for four long years for the principals he thought were right, and died still believing in these principals, and many of us today still believe in those principals." Mr. Stovall always took an active interest in the affairs of veterans and never missed a reunion. He was prominent in the affairs of his town and section and was identified with many businesses. Funeral services were conducted by his lifelong friend, Rev. J.F. Goode, at Clark's Creek church, Tuesday morning at eleven o'clock. Interment was in the churchyard cemetery. The large concourse of friends attending the funeral attested to his wide popularity and the esteem in which he was held. He is survived by two sons, Mr. W.B. Stovall, president of the Empire Trust Company, Atlanta, and Mr. Tom Stovall of Martin; one daughter, Mrs. John F. Brown, of Carnesville, and many other relatives and a host of friends. Additional Comments: I write this obituary only as a record of history, I am thoroughly opposed to the "principals" this man had as a soldier of the Confederacy.
