Royston--LaVerne Baker Strickland, 80, of Old Elberton Road, died Sunday Oct. 24, 
1999 at the Cobb Memorial Hospital in Royston.

A native of Royston, she was the daughter of the late Leland Dickson Baker and the 
late Allie Bert Lipp Baker. For many years, she was active in the Woodmen of the 
World Chapter 251, the Royston Lions Club, and the Royston Baptist Church. She was 
a homemaker. Strickland was the widow of the late Alfred Strickland.

Survivors include four daughters, Miriam Merritt, Stone Mountain, Sara Strickland, 
Royston, Becky Sanders, Lavonia, and Colleen S. Phillips, Royston; one brother, L. 
D. Baker, North Augusta, S. C.

She was preceded in death by one son, Alfred Melvin Strickland; one daughter, 
Glenda Strickland; two sisters, Farrell Baker Barrett and Cornell Baker Clamp.

Services were held Wednesday, Oct. 27, at the Pruitte Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. 
Danny Barton officiated. Burial followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Royston.
