L. P. Thomas. The community was generally pained at the intelligence that Col. L. P. Thomas, one of our oldest citizens had died the night previous at his residence in this city. The funeral services which took place at Trinity church yesterday afternoon, and a large number of all classes attended to pay their respects to the memory of a good man. Col. Thomas was born in Franklin county, Ga., in 1812, and was sixty-six years old at his death. He has been a citizen of Atlanta since about 1858, soon after he returned from a four years' life in California. He was in the army and was severely wounded in Virginia. A few years ago he was marshal of Atlanta, and filled the position with rare ability. He has suffered much from cancer in late years and it caused his death. The deceased was the father of Col. L. P. Thomas, Jr., our chief of police. He also leaves a son in Texas and a daughter in the same state, and one in Atlanta, Mrs. J. I. Miller. The city has lost one of its best and most faithful citizens.
