Born in Franklin County, he was a son of the late John Elbert and Lula Frances Martin Whitfield. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Olin H. Whitfield and a sister, Mrs. George (Eunice) McDuffie. He was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church, where he was a steward and former church treasurer. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, a cattle and poultry farmer, a member of Grove Masonic Lodge in Red Hill and was a member of the Franklin County Cattlemen's Association, Franklin County Farm Bureau and Georgia Poultry Federation. Survivors are: children: Larry & Evie Whitfield of Cornelia, GA and Michael & Linda Whitfield of Knoxville, TN. Sisters: Mrs. F. A. (Lois) Purcell of Carnesville; Mrs. James F. (Eufaula) McAlister, Sr., Mrs. Ed (Orene) Randall and Mrs. James (Doris) Edens, all of Greenville, SC. Grandchildren: John and Lora Whitfield, Cornelia and Michelle & Patti Whitfield of Knoxville, TN. Funeral services will be at 2 pm Saturday, December 29, 1984 from Prospect United Methodist Church with Rev. Blake Craft and Rev. Gary Whetstone officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
