John Elbert Whitfield, age 84, farmer and lifelong resident of Prospect 
Community, Toccoa, GA., died Sunday, May 31, 1959 at his residence.
Born February 16, 1875 in Banks County, GA, he was a son of the late James 
Marion and Alpha Cash Whitfield.  He was a member of Prospect United Methodist 
Church in Franklin County.
Survivors include: his widow, Lula Frances Martin Whitfield, of the home; 5 
daughters: Mrs. Fletcher (Lois) Purcell and Mrs. George (Eunice) McDuffie of 
Carnesville, GA.; Mrs. Fletcher (Eufaula) McAlister and Mrs. Edward (Orene) 
Randall of Greenville, SC; Mrs. James (Doris) Edens of Clinton, SC; 2 sons:  
Olin H. Whitfield and Odis Whitfield, Toccoa, GA; 1 brother:  Claude 
Whitfield, Amarillo, Texas; 4 sisters, Mrs. Joe (Nora) Murray, Atlanta, GA; 
Mrs. Luther (Leila) Murray, Toccoa, GA; Mrs. Ellis (Nancy) Verner and Mrs. 
Phillip (Ella) Purcell, Carnesville, GA.  18 grandchildren and 10 great 
grandchhildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Tuesday, June 2, 1959 from Prospect 
United Methodist Church, Franklin County, GA, with the Rev. Douglas Harmon and 
Rev. George Thurmond officiating.  Burial in the church cemetery.  Grandsons 
will serve as pallbearers.
