Mrs. Lula Frances Martin Whitfield, 79, widow of John Edlbert Whitfield, died 
Saturday morning at her home in the Prospect Community, Franklin County after 
several months of declining health.
Born in Franklin County, GA on March 19, 1882, she was a daughter of the late 
Derrell and Julian Ann Clementine Kesler Martin, and had lived all her life in 
the Prospect Community.  She was a member of the Prospect United Methodist 
Church.
Survivors include 5 daughters: Mrs. Fletcher (Lois) Purcell and Mrs. George 
(Eunice) McDuffie, both of Carnesville, GA; Mrs. Fletcher (Eufaula) McAlister 
and Mrs. Edwin (Orene) Randall of Greenville, SC and Mrs. James (Doris) Edens 
of Clinton, SC.  2 sons:  Olin Whitfield and ODis Whitfield, both of Toccoa, 
GA; 1 sister, Mrs. Knox (Emmaline) Wilkinson of Toccoa.  18 grandchildren, 12 
great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 pm, Sunday, from the Prospect United 
Methodist Church by the Rev. Don Brown and Rev. George thurmond.  Burial will 
follow in the church cemetery.
The following grandsons will serve as pallbearers:  Larry Whitfield, Harrison 
Purcell, Charles Purcell, Alfred Purcell, Elbert Randall and James McAlister, 
Jr.
