A son of the late Rev. James Jackson Wilson and the late Mary Martin Wilson, he was born January 1, 1856 in Anderson County, SC. He moved with his family to Banks County in 1864 and lived there until January, 1900, when he moved to Franklin County and lived there until his death. He was married to Martha Elizabeth Payne in 1890 and she preceded him to the grave 35 years ago. He was a charter member of Webbs Creek Baptist Church in Banks County and was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church at the time of his death. He was a farmer and owned a corn mill. Surviving are his children: Rev. G. F. Wilson, Mrs. Fred (Bell) Randall, Miss Mary Dell Wilson, Miss Ruth Wilson, Wister Wilson, Horace Wilson, Thomas Wilson, Mrs. Bryan (Jessie) Ayers, Mrs. Rance (Fredda) Ayers. 21 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. An unusually large concourse of friends and relatives attended the funeral from the surrounding counties of Georgia and South Carolina. Funeral services were held at Cross Roads Baptist Church, Sunday February 11, 1951, with Rev. E. H. Collins of Winder officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with Carnesville Lodge # 186 Free and Accepted Masons serving as honorary and active pallbearers. Fred Northcutt Mortuary in charge.
