Atha Mae Wingate, 83, of Jefferson, died Friday, October 29, 2004, following 
an extended illness.

She was born on October 12, 1921, in Harrisburg, N.C., daughter of the late 
Samuel Avery Wallace and Minnie Leola Flowe. Mrs. Wingate was a member of the 
First United Methodist Church, Jefferson. She was preceded in death by her 
husband, Robert Lee Wingate.

Survivors include three daughters, Malinda Fiskeaux, Nashville, Cindy Holman 
and Rhonda Christian, both of Jefferson; sister, Wilma Stilwell, Mathews, 
N.C.; brother, Reid Wallace, Harrisburg, N.C.; seven grandchildren; two great-
grandchildren; twelve nieces; and fourteen nephews.

Funeral services were held Sunday, October 31, at Galilee Christian Church 
with Minister Tom Plank officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1060 Gaines School Road, 
Athens, GA 30605, and/or St. Mary’s Hospice, P.O. Box 6588, Athens, GA 30604.

Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, was in charge of arrangements.
