Ordinary Estate Records (Unbound) 1791-1901 State of Georgia Franklin County In the name of God Amen. I Mathews Crawford of said state and county being of advanced age and knowing that I must shortly depart this life deem it right and proper both as respects my family and myself that I should make a disposition of the property with which a kind providence has blessed me do therefore make this my last will and testament hereby revoking all others heretofore made by me. 1st Item. I devise and direct that my body be buried in a decent and Christianlike manner suitable to my circumstances and condition in life. My Soul I trust shall return to rest with God who gave it and hope for eternal salvation threw the merits and atonement of the blessed Lord and Savior Jesus Christ whose religion I have professed and as I humbly trust enjoyed for thirty years. 2nd Item. I devise and direct that all my just debts be paid without delay by my Executors herein after appointed as I am unwilling my creditors should be delayed in their rights especially as there is no necessity for delay. 3rd Item. I give bequeath and devise to my son Stephen W. a boy Js. About two years old and five hundred dollars. 4th Item. I give bequeath and devise to my daughter Rachel Mosley, Lucinda a woman twenty two years old for her sole and separate use for and during her natural life free and exempt from the debts and liabilities from any future husband. And on her decease to each child or children as she may leave. 5th Item. I give bequeath and devise to my daughter Mary Mosley wife of James P Mosley a boy Mason about 3 years old for her sole and separate use during her natural life free and exempt from the debts and liabilities from her present or any future husband and on her decease to each child or children as she may leave. 6th Item. I give and bequeath to my son George W. the plantation on which he now lives also a note with his signature of one hundred and forty dollars and sixty dollars in cash. 7th Item. I give bequeath and devise to my daughter Louisa Jenkins, wife of Sims Jenkins, Silvy a girl about fourteen years old, also two notes bearing the signature of C S Jenkins the amount of one of the notes is fifty dollars and the other thirty dollars. The girl I restrict to her sole and separate use for and during her natural life free and exempt from the debts and liabilities of her present or a future husband and on her decease to such child or children as she may leave. 8th Item. I give bequeath and devise to my son James P., Robert a boy about six years old. 9th Item. I give and bequeath to my son Mathews B., a portion of land off the south portion I live on, commencing on a (?postook?) corner above the (?Betsher?) field and running a south west direction to a gum corner near Sion Whites. Also a boy Nick about nine years old and Mandy a woman sixty five years old. 10th Item. I give bequeath and devise to my beloved wife Anna with whom I have lived in the strictest quiet over forty years, the land on which I now live except the portion in the ninth item. Sam a negro man about thirty five years old and Peggy his wife thirty five years old, Martha three years old, Manda twenty years old, Frank six years old, Juda 8 months old, Roda six weeks years old. Also the ____ of my property consisting household and kitchen furniture, plantation tools of all kinds, horses, hogs, cattle and sheep. Gain of all kinds and all the provisions during her widowhood. 11th Item. In the event of the marriage or death of my wife, all the estate left in the hands of my wife with the increase of the property all but what she may use for her comfort by way of support, to be sold and equally divided among all my children, and if my wife should marry, I desire at the division of the estate so sold to have an equal share with the children, that is a child’s part. 12th Item. I devise that my daughter Rachel and her two children that now live with me remain with her mother during her pleasure. 13th Item. I devise that my executors after paying all expenses debts and dues against the estate, whatever surplus of money may be left, that they divide it among the legatees of the estate equally. 14th Item I devise that my Executors be not bound to have the estate appraised or make annual returns. 15th Item. I devise that the sale of all the property both real and personal of my estate be sold at my residence. 16th Item. I hereby constitute and appoint my sons Stephen W. and Mathews B. Executors of this my last will and testament. September 4, 1857.
