Their case is now before the mayor. At the late target shooting of the guards, the first prize was son by Lieutenant Milo Freeman. Macon harbors an amateur circus -- the police actively engaged in breaking up the negro street restaurants, which have become intolerable nuisances. Mr. Flemming was riding a horse on Thursday, when the animal stumbled and fell. Mr. Flemming fell under the horse and was badly crushed. He was insensible when aid reached him. The Macon guards shot at a target on yesterday. Result not yet known. A strong movement is on foot to change the arrangements of the Macon postoffice. The citizens would be delighted with a complete change. A gentlemen from Schley county grew tired of waiting for a train the other day, and slightly wounded himself with a pistol for pastime. - Star. Rome - A young man named Joseph Reynolds took too much morphine for his headache on Thursday night and came near dying. He is now out of danger. Mr. James Elliott received the first prize for the most graceful skating. Commercial. Three men encountered one on Saturday. The battle was a hot for a while, but superior numbers triumphed and the lone combattant gracefully retired. Mr. Charley Noble, a popular young Roman "has silently folded his tent" and fled to Atlanta. ---Courier ALBANY -- The huckster stands of Albany are becoming a great nuisance. The city should suppress or license them. Mr. Joab Greenwood, baggage master on the Arlington railroad, was considerably bruised on Monday by jumping off a moving train. Two sailors, John Robinson and Wm. Lyons had a difficulty Saturday night in which Robinson was cut in the abdomen and completely disemboweled. Lyons is in jail. Little hope is entertained of Robinson's recovery. --- Advertiser. Thomasville - Two negroes, Cato Adams and Jesse Reid got excited by the closing scenes in the election of Wednesday, when Adams cooled his friend's ardor by letting out a half gallon of his impetuous blood. ------ -- Half a dozen families have just moved near Thomasville from Florida. ----- Times COLUMBUS -- THe city light guards, gave a fine ball on Friday night. The LaGrange light guards were in attendance. ----- Barney Hawkins, a noted colored democrat, has taken himself Nancy Johnson as his companion for life. ELBERTON -- The dwelling of Mrs. A. Bates, on Broad River, was set on fire last week, but by vigorous exertion, the flames were extinguished. --------A certain street in Elberton has become the place of residence for almost all of the noted men in town. ----- Elberton still gives birth to new enterprises. She is soon to have a dancing school. --- Gazette. LOUISVILLE -- James Mulling and Charles Bradley were returning home in a buggy from Louisville on Friday, when a difficulty arose between them. Mulling cut Bradley and then jumped out and ran. It is not known yet whether the wound is serious or not. ---- There were over 25,000 tickets printed for the different candidates in Jefferson county at the late election. ---- News and Farmer. NEWNAN -- The county chain gang consisting of three unfortunates, vanished on Friday night. ---- The gin house of Mr. John Carpenter was burned on Friday night. An incendiary did the work. ----- Small pox has appeared in Newnan and proved fatal to several persons already. - ---- An attempt will be made to induce the city government to refuse to grant any license for the sale of spirituous liquors for a longer time than one month. --- A petition signed by over two hundred of the best citizens asks for the establishment of a county public school system. --- Herald. WAYNESBORO -- A negro named William Somebody has relieved the county chain gange of his presence. --- A stolen dog creates quite a stire and an advertisement less than a column in size. -- Expositor. COLUMBUS -- Several defeated candidates will contest the late county elections and have notified the governor not to issue the commissions. --Some shares in the Muscogee factory recently sold for $88. --- Great opposition exists against making the city bridges, which are now free to all, toll bridges. -- Columbus securities have advanced recently. Columbus is trying to raise a party to visit the New Orleans mardi gras. ---Expositor. AUGUSTA -- Mr. S. J. McCullouch, one of the overseers of the work on the bulk head of the lock, was severely injured by the falling of some stone last Friday. ---- The county board of education has on hand over $10,000 -- --- The races have begun. A large crowd is in attendance. Several noted horses are among the entries. -- Chronicle and Sentinel. CONYERS -- Conyers had a land lottery on Christmas day. Twelve town lots of considerable value were drawn. --- Two brawny irishmen are on a peddling expedition in Dekalb and Rockdale counties. -- unreadable paper name.
