The home of Andrew Spruell located in the upper portion of the county near Oak Shade was struck by lightning but for some inexplicable reason no damage was done to the exterior of the house. The lightning entered the house however, and did coonsiderable damage in one room. In what manner the lightning found its way into the room without leaving some trace on the outside of the house is not known. All of the doors and windows were closed at the time and there is no indication on the house to show where the bolt entered. No one was at home at the time the lightning struck, Mrs. Spruell having gone to the home of her mother nearby. When she returned home and entered the house she discovered the results of the lightning's work. Several pieces of furniture had been demolished and other articles showed marks of the lightning. Inside the room peculiarities of the lightning were also shown. The back of a large picture that hung on the wall was torn out, while the glass front was not injured in the least. A double-barreled shotgun had been struck and the stock torn off and the muzzle melted. The gun was loaded, but the concussion did not fire it.
