The Exposition Police Force
The Board of Police Commission Organizes the Force-Captain Crim is Chief. 

The Piedmont exposition police force was sworn in and organized at police 
headquarters last night by the board of police commissioners.  Captain J W 
English, chairman presiding.

Forty-eight men were sworn in.

The board convened in the private office of the chief of police at eight 
o'clock.  The applicants for position were all present and in the police court 
room awaited the result of the action of the board.  Of the applicants forty-
eight were selected by the board and then the swearing in was begun.  In 
squads of five the men were called in and requested to subscribe to the usual 
oath.  After the men were sworn in, Chairman English addressed them briefly, 
urging them to discharge their duty faithfully and fearlessly.  The board then 
instructed Chief of Police Connolly to detail Captain Crim to the command of 
the exposition force, with the rank of chief.  The captain will, in obedience 
to instructions of the board, place Stationhouse keeper Wright in charge 
during the day,, who at night will surrender the custody of the grounds to 
Officer James Parrish, who will direct the night watch.  The removal of 
Captain Crim from the city force to the fair grounds will occasion a vacancy 
in the city.  It is understood that Call Officer Thompson will actin Captain 
Crim's place, while Patrolman Joyner will be detailed to do the stationhouse 
in the place of Stationshouse Keeper Wright.
