He Tried To End His Life With Poison.

He Had Been Depressed

Physicians at Hospital Save His Life

His Wife Found Him Asleep And Almost Dead

While in a fit of despondency, Jeff N. Tolerson, a workman at Foote's trunk 
factory, took a large quantity of morphine last night about 7 o'clock, and but 
for the efforts of the physicians at the Grady hospital his attempt to commit 
suicide would have been successful. 

Tolerson resides at the corner of Bellwood avenue and Poplar streets.  
Saturday night he complained of not feeling well and appeared to be nervous 
and depressed.  Yesterday morning, however, he seemed to be better.  Last 
night about 7 o'clock his wife found him lying across a bed in a deep sleep.  
She tried to arouse him, but failed. His heavy breathing alarmed her and she 
called in some of the neighbors. 

George Burdette was among those who went to Mrs. Tolerson's assistance, and he 
saw that unless something was done for Tolerson very quickly he would be a 
dead man.  He telephoned for the ambulance and Tolerson was carried to the 
hospital, where the physicians had to resort to heroic treatment to counteract 
the effects of the poison. 

In two hours Tolerson was pronounced out of danger, and he will be able to 
regret his rash act in a few days. 

Mrs. Tolerson can ascribe no cause for her husband's desire to end his life 
other than that he was depressed.  He has a happy home and little children.  
He is a steady and good workman and earns a fair living. 

He evidently swallowed a very large quantity of the morphine.
