Addlestein, 50-year-old retired merchant, of East Linden street, ended his own life early Thursday night by firing a bullet through his brain. Addlestein’s widow assigned continued ill health as the reason for her husband’s suicide. According to Call Officers Chewning and Duncan, who investigated the case, Addlestein fired the bullet into his temple as he sat disrobed on a bed in a rear bed chamber of his residence. The revolver was a 32 caliber. Members of the family sitting in a front room of the house were attracted by the sharp report of a pistol. Rushing into Addlestein’s room they found him lying in a pool of blood upon his bed. He died before medical aid could reach him. The body was removed to the chapel of Greenberg & Bond, undertakers. Two nephews of the dead man, Charles Smullin, of 44 Wall street and Ben Batch, of 60 North Forsyth street, told police they feared their uncle would attempt suicide for some time. They stated they had talked to him Thursday afternoon extracting a promise from him that he would not harm himself. They left him in a “good humor,” they said. Addlestein had been suffering for an extended time, his widow told police, and had grown despondent over his failure to improve in health. He is survived by his widow, and one daughter, Genette Addlestein. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. The Atlanta Constitution Saturday, November 15, 1924 Page Twenty Two Funeral Notices Isaac Adelstein Funeral services for Isaac Adelstein, 50, of 303 East Linden street, who died suddenly Thursday at his residence, were held from the chapel of Greenberg & Bond, Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. Mr. Adelstein is survived by his widow, and a daughter, Miss Jeanette Adelstein. Additional Comments: Transcriber's note: I'm not related or researching the Adelstein family. Both news articles spelled his surname differently and I don't know which spelling is correct. I chose to post the obituary using the spelling of the surname in the funeral notice, since it included his first name, Isaac. His daughter's first name was also spelled a different way in both articles.
