Avery, Miami, Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Avery, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Avery, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Avery, the grandchildren and great-grandchildren are invited to attend the funeral of Mr. Henry Robert Avery Saturday, June 18, 1949 at 3:30 o’clock at Spring Hill, Rev. B. Frank Pim, Rev. D. C. Starnes officiating. Internment, West View, with Battle Hill Lodge No. 523 F&AM in charge. The pallbeares will be: Mr. J. L. Townsend, Mr. D. C. Wade, Mr. J. B. Goddard, Mr. Ralph Sewell, Mr. Cecil C. Caldwell, Mr. W. F. Mayes. H.M. Patterson & Son. This is another one – probably in the Atlanta Journal and Constitution. I assume it is dated Saturday, June 18, 1949 as is referenced in the obituary. HENRY R. AVERY, BLACKSMITH, DIES Funeral services for Henry Robert Avery, 79, who died Thursday night at his home, 867 Oglethorpe Ave, S.W., will be conducted at 3:30 pm today at Spring Hill. The Rev. B. Frank Pim and the Rev. D. C. Starnes will officiate. Burial will be in West View Cemetery. Battle Hill Lodge 523, F and A.M. will have charge of the graveside rites. Born at Sharon, Mr. Avery had lived in Atlanta 31 years. He was a retired Fulton County blacksmith and machinist. A member of Park Street Methodist Church, he was also a member of Battle Hill Masonic Lodge. Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. R. M. Peters and Mrs. J. B. Hinson of Atlanta; five sons, H. T., M. L. and J. B. Avery of Atlanta; R. L. Avery of Villa Rica; E. L. Avery of Miami, Fla; 13 grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. This was a Masonic notification in the Atlanta Journal and Constitution: There will be a called communication of Battle Hill Lodge No. 523, F. & A. M. in the ledge hall, Gordon Street and Lucile Avenue this (Saturday) afternoon, June 18 at 4 p.m. for the purpose of paying the last sad tribute of respect to our departed brother, Henry Robert Avery. All Master Mason are invited to be present. By order of, L.J. Cheele, W. M. Nelson Crist, Sec. Additional Comments: Henry Robert Avery was my great-grandfather though I never knew him. My mother said he was a kind and gentle man with big arms. She remembered it would hurt you when he hugged you. I guess a blacksmith would be strong!
