Allen Dies In China Death of Noted Missionary Announced by Cable Was Native Of Georgia Had Been in China Forty Years and Wrote One Hundred Books, Some in Chinese, Which Were Very Widely Read Atlanta, Ga. – Bishop W.A. Candler, of the Methodist Episcopal Church, received a cablegram Tuesday from Shanghai announcing the death of Dr. Young J. Allen, forty years missionary to China. No particulars were contained in the cablegram beside the announcement of the death. Dr. Allen was a Georgia by birth. He was 72 years old and was educated at Emory College, graduating in 1858. Surviving him are Mrs. Allen, two sons and four daughters, all of whom excepting one married, Mrs. Mary Turner, residing in New York City, live in China. Dr. Allen was the author of nearly 100 books, some of which published in the Chinese language are widely read in that country. During a visit to this country last year Dr. Allen was invited to conference by President Roosevelt regarding the situation in the Far East, particularly regarding the massacres of which he had made a special sturdy.
