F. Hurt, in this county, on the 18th March, 1873, Maj. James Freeman, in the 86th year of his age. This gentleman was well known in the State as a man of good practical common sense, and had filled positions in the Conventions and Legislatures of the State. He was, we learn, a man of great success as a planter in Middle Georgia, and lived until the wave of war went over his home, in Gordon County. He leaves a widow and several children. He was the father of Mr. Freeman, member of Congress from this District, and father-in-law to Judge Lochrane and Mr. A. F. Hurt, of this city. His remains will be taken to Rome for burial.
