We are pained to chronicle the death of Charles Godfrey, Esq., who died this morning, about seven o'clock, at his residence in this city. The writer of this article knew Mr. Godfrey from boyhood, and a more genial and noble soul than he never lived. He bore arms gallantly for the "Lost Cause" and was a proved and tried soldier. His death is a loss, indeed, to the community, and his memory will live in the hearts of all who knew this excellent manhood that has passed away to the shades of death, and were intimate with the superior, moral and intellectual qualities of the deceased. The funeral will take place to-morrow, at ten o'clock, from Trinity Church, and the friends and acquaintances of the deceased and the family, are respectfully invited to attend.
