Hawkins, 78, who died Monday morning at her residence, 456 Venable Street, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Payne Memorial Methodist Church. Rev. L. B. Lynn officiated, and interment was in Oakland Cemetery. Grandsons of Mrs. Hawkins acted as pallbearers. Mrs. Hawkins was the daughter of the last Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Grubbs, pioneer citizens of Atlanta, and had lived here most of her life. She was the widow of Captain George W. Hawkins, commander of Company 1, of the Forty-third Georgia Regiment in the War Between the States. Mrs. Hawkins had been active in the work of the Payne Memorial Church, and as a member of the Alfred Colquitt Chapter of the U. D. C., had aided many widows of Confederate veterans to get their pensions.
