A. E. Means, head of the Hapeville Industrial reformatory and a widely-known Atlantan, was stricken dead by heart failure at his home, 22 Beecher street, at 6:30 o'clock Thursday morning. Professor Means had been superintendent of the Hapeville home for more than fifteen years, and prior to that time he was assistant superintendent of the Atlanta public schools. There are hundreds of the older people who remember him as their schoolmaster. Professor Means is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. J. P. Kelley and Mrs. T. M. Smoak; three brothers, Z. B. Means, of Eagle Lake, Fla.; R. L. Means, of Winston-Salem, N. C., and J. D. Means, of Atlanta, and by two sisters, Mrs. A. A. Smoak, of Perry, and Mrs. C. J. Bennett, of Vienna.
