Of Pioneer Family Mrs. Morgan, before her marriage was Miss Eugenia Hamilton Goode, daughter of the late Major and Mrs. Hamilton Goode, a pioneer Georgia family. Mrs. Morgan was a native Georgian, being born in Muscogee county, October 1, 1844. She has been a resident of Atlanta since the beginning of the civil war in 1861, coming here from the LaGrange Woman’s college, where she was a student. In 1895 the college was moved to College Park and the name changed to Cox college. Mrs. Morgan received her diploma from the school 54 years after she first attended it. During the period of the war between the states she made her home in Atlanta, but spent most of her time in Athens, where she lived with members of the Hamilton family. She returned to Atlanta after the war and met Major Morgan, being married to him in 1865. He was a resident of New York and served with distinction in the Confederate army. Prominent in Clubs Mrs. Morgan was recognized as one of the leading women of Atlanta and was widely known in club circles, being a factor in establishing many of the present day organizations. She also was prominently connected with charitable work of this city and devoted much of her time and energy to campaigns of various charitable organizations. Among outstanding offices she has held in club circles, Mrs. Morgan was president of the Atlanta chapter, D.A.R.; honorary president of the Pioneers’ club; first president of the Ladies’ Memorial association; one of the organizers of the Y.M.C.A. auxiliary; an officer of the Colonial Dames and a leader in the work of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, of which she has been a member since its organization.
