Evans Dead Atlanta, July 2 – After lingering at death’s door for nearly a month, Gen. Clement A. Evans, formerly Commander-in-Chief of the United Confederate Veterans, died at his home at 4 o’clock of Bright’s disease. His death was not unexpected. He had been a member of the prison commission since 1897, being appointed to the position by Governor Atkinson, who had defeated General Evans for the governorship. A short time ago Governor elect Hoke Smith announced that he would appoint General Evans Adjutant General of the state upon taking his seat as governor.
