Kemis Massey - to be published in the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer
Roy Charles Songer, Jr., 84, of Columbus, GA died Sunday, February 15, 2009 at
his home.  Since Mr. Songer requested to be cremated and his ashes scattered at
Lick Skillet Creek near the Chattahoochee River, there will not be a service. 
The family will receive family and friends at 5958 Frazier Drive on Friday
February 20, 2009 and Saturday February 21, 2009 between 1 - 4 pm.

Mr. Songer was born July 24, 1924 in Fulton County, GA.   Son of the late Rosa
Camp Songer and Roy C Songer, Sr. He lived in Columbus most of his life and was
Baptist by faith.  He served with 95th General Hospital in St. Lowe France
during WWII.  He retired from the Columbus Fire Department in 1986 with 38 years
of service.  He loved fishing and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Irine Evans Songer; a daughter, Kemis
Massey (John) of Columbus; a son, Charles Gregory Songer of Cataula, GA;
brother, Ruben Songer (Ellen) of Shiloh, GA; sister, Alice Stewart of Columbus,
GA; grandson, Jeremiah Dixon of Hardwick, GA. numerous nieces and nephews and a
good friend Rex Enfinger.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to Columbus Hospice, 7020
Moon Road, Columbus, GA  31909.  The family would like to thank everyone at
Columbus Hospice, Ann, Elise, Anne and Liz for their help, kindness and prayers.

My dad has embarked on the greatest fishing trip ever.  He will truly be missed!
