Witham, Sr., prominent Atlanta banker, who died Tuesday in Rochester, Minn., will be held this afternoon at 2 o’clock from the residence on Peachtree road. Interment in West View cemetery will follow. Dr. J.B. Mitchell, pastor of St. Mark’s Methodist church, of which Mrs. Witham was a member, will officiate and the following will act as pallbearers: Paul J. Baker, Luther Z. Rosser, Andrew Calhoun, Junius Oglesby, Hugh M. Dorsey, Roy Dorsey and Frank Keene. Mrs. Witham’s death came as a shock to her wide circle of friends. Only a week ago they were advised that her condition was much improved and that she was rallying from the effects of an operation which she had undergone in a Rochester sanitarium. A relapse suffered Tuesday afternoon resulted in her death at midnight. Was Civic Leader The beloved woman was prominently identified with practically every movement that looked toward the betterment of the city. A civic service in which Mrs. Witham was deeply interested was her connection with the local Young Women’s Christian Association. She served for a number of years as president of the governing board of this institution and during her regime the “Y.W.” made tremendous forward strides which resulted in bringing it to the foremost position it now occupies among institutions of its kind in Atlanta. Mrs. Witham frequently stated that the chief reason for her warm interest in the Y.W.C.A. lay in the fact that her mother before her was a member of the board of the institution and requested her to continue the work. Secured “Y.W.” Home One of the most signal accomplishments of Mrs. Witham’s administration was the securing of the low now owned and occupied by the “Y.W.” on Baker street. It has grown to be highly valuable as a close¬-in realty location and its acquisition was made possible by the generosity of Mrs. Witham’s husband and through her own wisdom and foresight, it is said. She was philanthropic and generous in every act of life. One of the last causes she became interested in was the group of scholarships for the Tallulah Falls school, which Mr. Witham gave. She is survived by her husband and two children, Mrs. Laura Dorsey and Mrs. W.S. Witham, Jr.* *The newspaper article has the child as Mrs. W.S. Witham, Jr. instead of Mr. Since I'm not related to or familiar with this family, I'm not sure if the son was deceased and his wife was listed.
