The wedding was solemnized at high noon at the home of the bride’s sister and brother, Mr. and Mrs. Claud E. McLeod, at their home in Beaufort, S.C., in the presence of relatives and a few close friends. The beautiful colonial home of the McLeods overlooking the bay, is one of the most attractive places of Beaufort. The entire lower floor was decorated with gay autumn foliage. The bride was lovely in deep brown charmeen, with brown imported hat of panne velvet. Her corsage was of orchids and valley lilies. Mrs. Newell is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Chandler, of Beaufort, and as Miss Alice Chandler, she was a lovely and popular belle of South Carolina. Her father, the late William Chandler, was an artist of national reputation, having studied with Whistler, and being prominently connected with art centers throughout Europe and America. Mr. Newell is a member of one of the oldest and most prominent Georgia families. Born in Milledgeville, Ga., Mr. Newell is the son of the late Captain T.F. Newell, whose enormous plantations were well known throughout south Georgia. His mother was Miss Anne Lane Colquitt, the daughter of General Alfred H. Colquitt, former governor of Georgia and United States senator. His great-grandfather was Judge Walter I. Colquitt, also United States senator. He is the brother of Alfred C. Newell, prominent Atlanta business man, recently president of the chamber of commerce and a leader in civic and social affairs in Atlanta. After a wedding trip to points of interest in Florida, Mr. and Mrs. Newell will be at home after December 1 at 798 Spring Street. Among the out-of-town guests present at the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Alfred C. Newell and Mr. and Mrs. George Howard.
