ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:	
The 1850 Murray CO GA federal census lists: Joseph Stepp, 35, 
a farmer with $500 in real estate, born NC; his wife Susan, 20, 
born in North Carolina; John 4, born NC; Thomas 2, born GA. 
The 1860 Gilmer CO GA federal census lists Joseph Stepp, 44, NC, 
$2500 RE, $1500 PE, wife Susan J., 31, born NC; John 12, NC; 
Thomas P., 11, GA; Harriet E., 9, GA; Leander F., 7, GA; 
Matilda, 3, GA; Margaret, 1, GA.Family tradition says that Joseph 
had three wives, was born in Holland, and that John Hugh's mother 
was a Cherokee Indian. After studying the census facts, that 
Joseph was most likely born in NC, since this is what he himself 
says.  Perhaps his father was born in Holland. Also, I think it 
very likely that Joseph's mother was the Cherokee, as intermarriage 
was quite common at the time of Joseph's birth. Joseph and Susan 
were apparently married in NC and came to GA around 1847. Steward 
Stepp (Joseph's gr-grandson) relates that Joseph's last wife put 
him in a nursing home in White Deer, Carson CO TX where he died. 
Census of 1880 for Carson CO shows no Stepps.
