Application For State Pension Act Of 1910
GEORGIA, GILMER COUNTY
In person came before me, the undersigned, an officer authorized by law to 
administer oaths, W. H. Foster, the applicant in the above stated claim, who 
being by me duly sworn, says:  That in order that there may be a clear 
understanding of his service in the State Troops, and in the Confederate Army, 
he desires to submit the following statement, to wit: That in June 1863,and to 
the best of his recollection about the 18th day of June, said year, he 
enloisted in Company H, First Georgia State Troops at Etowah, Bartow County, 
Ga.  That he served with said Company for about ten months; that abouve the 1st 
of March 1864, there was a Company of Cavalry made up, and every man of said 
Company H was given the opportunity to join said Cavalry Company who would 
furnished his own mount; that he came home to Ellijay, procured his horse and 
joined what was known Captain Cowan's Company of scouts, that he remained with 
said Cowans Company until the fall of Savannah, that on the retreat of the army 
from Savannah affiants company fell back to Milledgeville, Captain Cowan having 
been killed in action, the company was then commanded by Captain Tolbert; that 
he was given a furlough at Milledgeville and came home to Ellijay where he 
joined a company commanded by Captain M. B. Greer, which was attached to 
Ralston's Battalion; that he remained with said company and surrendered with it 
at Kingston, Georgia, May 12th 1865.

County, Ga.
