Mr. Akin underwent an operation three years ago, and for some time seemed to be on the road to recovery and was able to be out among friends at times. But he suffered much even when he was out and about. About a year ago he was taken to his bed and was never able to be up again. Mr. Akin was born in Franklin county, the son of pioneer citizens. He lived his entire life near the home of his birth. He was married in November 1900. Mr. Akin was an outstanding citizen, taking an active interest in all community, County, state and national affairs. He was also active in his church, being a member of the Broad River Church. He was a devout husband, kind, indulgent father, obliging neighbor, and friend to all with whom he came in contact. His passing is mourned by hundreds of friends throughout the county. Funeral services were held at Broad River Baptist Church Friday, October 6th, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Harvey A. King and Rev. Huey Crunkleton officiating. An unusually large crowd attended the funeral to pay their last respects for this fine citizens. Pallbearers were: Clayton Akin, DeWitte Eskew, Will Rollins, Tom Teat and Paul Teat. Surviving are the following children; D, C. Akin, Pelham, Ga., J. D. Akin, Martin, J. E. Akin, Martin, Antoinette Akin, Martin, and a number of other close relatives and friends. B. D.
