Glynn County Georgia Cemeteries Freedman (African-American) File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by "Amy Hedrick" Table of Contents page: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/glynn.htm Georgia Table of Contents: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm Freedman Cemetery, Brunswick, Glynn County, Georgia Transcribed by Amy Hedrick email: amylyn@btconline.net This cemetery is located at the very end of Petersville Road. Take Hwy. 17 North to from Brunswick and turn left onto Hwy. 99. Petersville Road is the first road on your left. Drive to the end of the road and park. Climb over the dirt hill directly in front of you and walk about 125 yards. The cemetery will be on your right with a sign in a fenced off area. Open the gate and walk in about 100 feet. There are many unmarked graves in this cemetery. When the graves started to cave in, the family came out and piled dirt on top of all of them (marked and unmarked). It gives the cemetery an eerie quality as it looks as though either the graves are freshly dug or the coffins are sitting above ground! I have yet to find anyone who can give me a little history on this cemetery and the people buried here. This is a black cemetery. As soon as I find out more, I will share it with all of you. I have pictures of each stone. 1st Row: 1-14 are unmarked mounds 2nd Row: 15 & 16 are unmarked mounds 3rd Row: 17. Wooden marker 18.
