C.B. Devereaux, which took place on Butler’s Island the night previous. The Major had just returned from a pleasant trip North, and gone over on Friday last to look after the affairs of the Island, for which he is agent. He retired, in perfect health, on Sunday night, and was found cold and lifeless in his bed the following morning, having been suddenly snatched away during the night by paralysis of the heart. This sudden stroke has bereft us of one marked for integrity and uprightness of character, a perfect gentleman, beloved by all who knew him. His circle of friends will miss him at their social gatherings, and there will be a vacant chair in the home circle.
