Keene Dies Wednesday At Local Hospital Hardy Layton Keene, 90, of 729 Norwich Street, died Wednesday at the Brunswick hospital after a short illness. He had been a resident of Glynn County for the past 30 years and was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church and formerly a deacon. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mattie Lockhart Keene; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Ella Keene Lockhart of Augusta and Mrs. Essie Keene Shadron of Brunswick; four sons, Cecil Keene and Howard Keene of Brunswick, Ovid Keene of Savannah, and Grover Keene, also of Brunswick; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 3pm Friday at the Salvation Army with Major H. O. Davis officiating. Interment will be at Palmetto Cemetery. The body will remain in the chapel of the funeral home and be placed in the church an hour prior to the service. Active pallbearers will be Vernon Crews, Eddie Crews, Ludwig Owens, James Partin, Jimmy Partin, and Edward Wiggs. Honorary pallbearers will be the Rev. H. C. Sapp, Dwayne Keene, Tonnie Shadron, Bertie Robson, Ed Rowland, Ferman Smith, Chester Lockhart, Alton Logue, and Red Adams. Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
