General Robert E.Lee Commander of the Confederate States Army, who kept the Yan
kees on their feet during The War Between the States, has died. He was born at 
Stratford, Westmoreland County, Va. He graduated from West Point,2nd in his 
class. In 1860 he resigned from the U. S. Army and offered his services to his 
native state (his country). He surrendered His Army to Grant April 9, 1865. He 
was then President of Washington College, now Washington & Lee. He is buried in 
a crypt on the campus of the College.
