Gabriel Monery, a sailor on the Spanish bark “J.R.” was drowned at the quarantine station last night. About 8 o’clock, Monery was walking on the ballast wharf and, making a misstep, stumbled and fell, striking the stones which lie at the edge of the wharf. Stunned by the blow, he was unable to save himself and his body was carried out into the stream, where drowning resulted. The alarm was given but it was too late to rescue the unfortunate man. His body was recovered near the station this morning, and buried there today. Monery was 27 years old and a Spaniard by birth.
