Oldest Veteran Succumbs Here

Thaddeus M. Mroczkowski, 91, died at the Brunswick Nursing Home Friday after 
an extended illness.

He had been a resident of Brunswick for the past 84 years and resided at 
3256 Lakeside Dr. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War and the 
oldest veteran in Glynn County.

He is survived by a son, J. T. Mroczkowski, a sister, Mrs. J. A. Dankel of 
Waycross, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces 
and nephews.

Funeral services, under the direction of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home 
will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, at the graveside in Palmetto Cemetery, with 
the Rev. Terry DeLoach of the Jekyll Island Methodist Church officiating.

Active pallbearers will be members of the Brunswick Fire Department, and the 
honorary will be Dr. A. N. Galin and members of V.F.W. Post 2538.

The body will remain in the chapel of the funeral home until the hour of 
services.



Additional Comments:
"Mac" Mroczkowski was the son of Thaddeus K. Mroczkowski and Mary F. 
McAllister. He was born on 15 Jun 1879 in Albany, Ga. According to his 
obituary, his family moved to Brunswick, Ga. in 1886 and he lived there for 
the next 84 years. Mac married Ruby Layfield on 11 Nov 1906 in Taylor 
County, Ga. They had three children: Rufus, Jim, and Dorothy. Sadly Dorothy 
died at the age of six in 1926. Mac & Ruby are buried in Palmetto Cemetery.
