NIGTENGALE DEAD—Passed Away Monday After a Long and Lingering Illness. Mr. John K. Nightengale [sic] passed away Monday afternoon at 1 o’clock at his room, at the residence of Mrs. Laura Hine on Union street, after an illness extending over a period of several months. It was realized weeks ago that his condition was very serious and the end has been expected for the past few weeks. The deceased is survived by a widow and four children, Mrs. C.K. Lennig, of Philadelphia, Mr. P.M. Nightengale and Misses Maud and Marie Nighttengale [sic] of this city, two sisters, Mrs. Robert Troup and Mrs. G.D. Harrison, of New York, and one brother, Mr. William Nightingale [sic], of this city. Mr. Nightingale has been a resident of Brunswick for many years and he was well known and popular among an unusually large number of friends, who will regret to learn of his death. He was a member of Oglethorpe lodge, Knights of Pythias and also a Confederate veteran, and delegations from both of these organizations attended the funeral, which was held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 from St. Marks Episcopal church, Rev. R.E. Boykin officiating. The funeral cortege was a large one many friends following the remains to their resting place in Oak Grove cemetery to pay a last tribute. The following gentlemen acted as pallbearers: C.W. Wylly, J.E. duBignon, honorary; A.J. Crovatt, J.S. Dunwody, J.E. Dubberly, J.J. Spear, W.H. Berrie, J.T. Lambright.
