Owens, 63, formerly Brunswick chief of police, died at the City Hospital late last night, following an illness of several weeks. His condition had been critical for the past two weeks. Mr. Owens served for many years with the Brunswick police department. He was for several years assistant chief of police and was promoted to chief, in which position he served for one year. That was about 35 years ago. Mr. Owens had been a resident of Brunswick for 50 years. He was born in McIntosh county and removed here when a boy. He is survived by two brothers, Sheriff George M. Owens and Walter T. Owens, and one sister, Mrs. A.A. Harvey, all of Brunswick. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10 o’clock at the Norwich Street Baptist church, conducted by the Rev. C.H. Moss and Rev. C.C. Davison, and interment will follow in Oak Grove cemetery. The following will serve as pallbearers: J.E. Abbott, Arthur Owens, LeRoy Ramsey, J.E. Dubose. Funeral arrangements are in charge of the Gibson-Hart Funeral Home.
